#Kmcontraelcáncerinfantil is a campaign to raise awareness of the need to inject funds into children’s cancer research as this is the main way to find a cure for the disease.
Childhood cancer is considered rare. For every 200 adults who get cancer, only one child is affected. That is why most of the public and private research funds go into adult cancer. So children with cancer are missing out on this important research.
All the money collected will go to the ‘Recerca Translacional de Càncer Infantil’ (childhood and adolescent cancer research) team in the VHIR (Vall d’Hebron Research Institute) of Vall d’Hebron Hospital..
The driving force of this initiative is Pau Odina. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in November 2019. After more than a year of treatment, Pau has decided the time has come for him to share his experience of something nobody ever thinks would happen to them and, above all, to give thanks to all the people who have been with him throughout.
All the money collected will go to the ‘Recerca Translacional de Càncer Infantil’ (childhood and adolescent cancer research) team in the VHIR (Vall d’Hebron Research Institute) of Vall d’Hebron Hospital, specifically for the project: Role of liquid biopsy for early detection of relapses in osteosarcoma
Performing liquid biopsy in the follow up of children and adolescents with osteosarcoma will give a more accurate estimation of the risk of relapse, progression of the tumor and metastasis, allowing individualised treatment. Also, the identification of biomarkers of early relapse, as well as the close collaboration of our centre with other children’s cancer treatment centres, both national and international, will facilitate the transfer of the progress made and improve monitoring protocols. This strategy will help optimise the current therapeutic protocols through the use of molecular biomarkers. We hope that, once the studies are finished, there will be a significant improvement in children’s cancer survival.
#Kmcontraelcáncerinfantil is a virtual race with one collective aim, to raise funds for the VHIR (Vall d’Hebron Research Institute) team working on childhood and adolescence cancer in Vall d’Hebron Hospital, specifically for the project coordinated by Dr Soledad Gallego and Dr Josep Roma.
